 March 10 THE SUMMIT! (19,340 ft/5,895 m) It only takes about 2-3 hours hiking the switchback trail from the crater floor up to Uhuru Peak, the summit. The view is breathtaking. Lots of celebration; tons of photos and deep breaths. After all the celebration, we start to head down to our last camp on the mountain, "high" in more ways than one. On the descent, our lungs thank us as we breath the oxygen-rich air. Tonight we enjoy a celebration meal, prepared by the our cook at camp, and enjoy our last night on Kilimanjaro at Millennium Camp at 12,500 ft. |
